Here at The Filter, we’re not ones to shy away from doing something a little different for team building and this past Sunday was no exception as we took to the River Avon here in our home town of Bath to take part in Dragon Boat racing!
With a team of 11, comprised of a drummer and 10 rowers we took to the waterways for a spot of friendly rivalry against local companies to raise money for charity.
Our chosen charity this year was The Mountain Way. Founded in 2014, The Mountain Way provides a one-on-one bespoke programme for military veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The programme aids in giving military personnel the chance to regain control of their lives, working towards peace, happiness and harmony.
In our first race we took on Noah’s Arke – and won by 2 seconds! We did however, almost end up capsizing at the end of the race but much to everyone’s delight we managed to right ourselves and not end up in the water.
Our second race was another success. Taking on Mother of Dragons we even managed to shave 4 seconds off of our first race time.
And for our third race we had a slight crew switch around and then took on Cognisess Sport – a well seasoned team who had definitely snuck in a few practice runs before the event. Sadly, we lost that round to them but only by 0.4 of a second. Despite not making it through to the semi-finals, we all had a fantastic time. Something new and adventurous for us all to take part in and a great way to raise money for a local charity.
